Christiaan Maats is a designer and entrepreneur who challenges the way we look at product design. Going beyond form and function he shows us how products carry deeper layers of meaning and how those layers can connect us to a bigger reality. Who is a Product Manager and What do they do? [Career Insights]

07:54
The role of a product manager is crucial but also one of the least understood ones. What does a product manager really do? Is he more of a data analyst? Or someone who deals with the tech aspects of product, leading the team of engineers? Or does the product manager largely concern himself/herself with user experience, design or the overall business strategy? Mind-boggling isn't it? No wonder the role is difficult to understand for most. In this video, Ravijot Chugh, Co-Founder and Product Head at UpGrad, explains in detail the various responsibilities a Product Manager has, and that you need to execute to the best of your ability to be a good PM. If you want to bag one among the thousands of highly coveted openings for Product Managers between now and 2020 (only to grow exponentially even after), you need to start upgrading your existing skills and mastering these key skills. Product Managers are often referred to as mini-CEOs of the product. This is why, at tech companies, startups and large MNCs that are now diversifying, alike, the role of Product Managers is lucrative and one of the most important in the organization. @IndeedEng: Data-Driven Product Design

01:06:58
Advertising pioneer John Wanamaker famously said, "Half the money I spend on advertising is wasted; the trouble is I don't know which half." At Indeed, our experience shows that more than half of product features are not only wasted but actually have a negative impact on user experience. Thanks to rigorous A/B testing we know precisely which half, so we can ensure that every feature we add delivers measurable value. With 100 million monthly unique visitors and 3 billion monthly searches, our data provides empirical answers to (nearly) all of our product questions. In this talk, we will cover: * a motivation for why we A/B test everything * the tools and systems we have developed to measure and analyze test results and the key metrics we focus on, and * multiple case studies illustrating how years of testing has shaped Indeed's design and product thinking. We will include specific examples of how small, overlooked changes have impacted our metrics in significant and unexpected ways, and how implementing simple "no-brainer" updates on our site decreased key business metrics and caused us to re-evaluate our solutions. This talk is for designers, product managers, and engineers from companies of any size who want to understand how data-driven design makes better products. Speakers J Christopher Garcia is the User Experience Lead at Indeed. Chris ensures Indeed's products are easy to use for millions of people all over the world. He has focused on user experience at Indeed for over 6 years. As the company has grown from start-up underdog to the world's leading job search engine, he has contributed to every major product Indeed offers. Chris Hyams is SVP of Product & Engineering at Indeed. Prior to Indeed, Chris was founder of B-Side, an Austin-based company that provided digital distribution, marketing, and analytics technology for the film industry. Prior to B-Side, he was VP of Engineering at Trilogy Software.

Product Manager - 10 Essential Skills to Master (In 2019)

06:51
Product Management is a fast-growing and niche area to develop a career in. Naturally, there are some essential skills that can get you to be the very best of the lot. While the need for Product Managers is increasing by the day - in startups, tech companies and other large companies alike - the supply in India is currently only limited to a few thousands and compares poorly to countries such as the US. As per the Google and Accel Partners SAAS Report, there are roughly 36,000 Product Managers in India and the number is expected to increase to about 68,000 Product Managers by 2020. So, the need is apparent. But what does one have to do to get there? How to become a Product Manager? A common misconception is that Product Managers need to only master certain hard skills such as business understanding, tech and data. However, this would only mean the job is half done. To be a successful Product Manager you must have some soft skills too. These include communication, negotiation and leading without authority among many others. But don't worry about backgrounds, as Product Managers have been known to have diverse work and educational experience prior to making the transition into Product Management. Ravijot Chugh, Co-Founder and Product Head at UpGrad, explains in this 3rd part of the Careers-In-Shorts Series what these key skills are and how one can ace them to get on the road to being a great Product Manager. KNOW: The Future of Product Data Analytics

06:28
At every company there are volumes of historical data that trace the birth, life and death of the products that we touch and use every day. What if we took all of this data and tried to write a new story? Could it be put to use to predict the future? Could it tell us how to innovate better next time? In the second video of our KNOW series, we explore the application of advanced analytics to product development data. Using product lifecycle intelligence (PLI), we can now predict the outcomes of product development and prescribe recommendations to make the future better – both for companies that make products and the people who use them. www.kalypso.com/pli

But even teams that think of themselves as data driven can get caught up on the wrong metrics, bias their research, or get confused by seemingly conflicting feedback from users. How do you navigate these challenges to create products that drive the business outcomes they are charged with? Holly discussed what metrics you should look at when evaluating product performance, how much qualitative vs quantitative discovery you should do and what discovery techniques will help you answer the most important questions. At Shutterstock, Holly successfully made the case to shutdown Skillfeed, an internally launched startup in the online education space. Next she led the launch of Shutterstock Editor from prototype to successful public beta in 3 months, generating praise from the target users who loved that it saved them time. Holly then followed it up with a validated roadmap to support an increasing amount of valuable customer outcomes. This helped a wider audience and a resource plan to scale the team 3x so that they could deliver on the original vision as fast as possible. By the end of Shutterstock Editor’s first year, the team had earned a reputation for continually delivering valuable improvements and product usage had grown 10X from its first month.
