Proper Tie Length of a Full Windsor Knot

851 ratings | 251707 views
Proper tie length will take practice but this technique is the most widely used. The easiest way to get your tie to the correct length is by using my tips while doing trial and error. Before you view this video you should be familiar with my concept of the "tie hole", which you can see in some of my other videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eV28VwCu4TA How to Tie a Tie (Detailed) - Full Windsor Knot http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mx6_KjWh8_o How to Tie a Tie - Full Windsor Knot (short version) Pattern: Out, Behind, In, Across, Out.

I thought this video was pretty informative, thank you for this! If you can tie a tie, you can dodge a ball! Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive, and Dodge... or in this case Out, Behind, In, Across, and Out!

Proper tie length needs to be just at the top of the belt, or approximately the middle of the belt. At 3:40 / 3:41, where you have tie tip being at/around the belt top is the correct and proper length for a double (full) Windsor. So unless you do not stand with a straight back, I don't know why you're saying it is too short. And no, I'm not in any way a newbie with ties ;) I'm just looking for a video to link to a friend who needs a fast guide on ties for tomorrow. :) Other than that, nice video with a good explanation ^-^

I tend to like my ties just a little (maybe an inch) longer than that. Like I have at the 0:02 mark. The difference is almost negligible and you are probably correct most people these days like it the length you mention.

I have been trying to figure out a good step by step, the best I can come up with so far is this video. I am still working on figuring out a better video but it is very difficult for 3 reasons: 1) There is no standard tie length/size (--> and the little "mark" sewn into the seam side is also not standardized). 2) Everyone's neck size is different. 3) Everyone's body length is different. I'll let you know if/when I figure it out!
